Why this Works for Kids
Most kids don't think of themselves as writers. Bake a Book changes that in 60 minutes.
By giving kids the building blocks of a story—characters with clear personalities, choices about setting and conflict, gentle prompts for what happens next—the workshop removes the hardest part of writing: starting.
Once kids are inside their own story, they're not "writing." They're inventing. They're choosing. They're building something no one else could have made. Teachers tell us that students who barely engage in traditional writing exercises light up during Bake a Book. Quiet kids share their stories. Reluctant writers ask for more paper.
The workshop is built on the foundation of the award-winning Little Virtues series—eight books that teach character development through stories kids actually want to read.
